THE COAST IN FOCUS

The "Coast in Focus" app demonstrates how the German North Sea Coast is continuously observed and studied by means of COSYNA (Coastal Observing System for Northern and Arctic Seas). Using the "Coast in Focus", you can obtain real-time data from our measurement stations. Temperature, wave height, currents, and other data are shown for many places at the German North Sea coast. Maps provide an overview of real-time situations and forecasts for the German Bight.

The "Coast in Focus" app provides short texts and images about measurements, computer models, data products, and partners. The app answers question such as “How do measurement buoys, radar instruments, research vessels and other measurement systems work in operation?” “How do these instruments measure water properties at different depths?”

The data is integrated into computer models by the coastal researchers at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht to obtain a comprehensive picture as well as to develop predictions for the German Bight.

The Institute of Coastal Research at the Helmholtz-Zentrum Geesthacht

The COSYNA observation and analysis system is developed and coordinated by the Helmholtz- Zentrum Geesthacht’s Institute of Coastal Research. The measurement instruments and platforms are operated in cooperation with numerous partner institutions. With these studies, the researchers develop the scientific basis for assessing changes on the coast and work toward a foundation to support sustainable coastal management.
